My name is Gabriel Akinmade and here are some details about my personal and professional journey;
I am a confident person from a large family and the sixth of my siblings. I’m married with a son and enjoy art, sketching, and exploring different cultures. My interests in fashion and technology drive my innovative spirit and motivate me to seek new challenges.
I am a design professional with over 12 years of experience, having worked on various software products and publications from conceptualization to delivery. I gained proficiency in designing print materials using the CMYK methodology through both in-house roles and agency work. I am skilled in utilizing tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Miro to organize projects efficiently. Additionally, I have experience with a range of design software, including Adobe Suite, Figma, InVision, Manga Studio, Corel Draw, and Krita, all aimed at creating exceptional user experiences. I hold a BSc in Computer Science from Caleb University and completed a three-month internship at Sage Designs in Lagos after graduation. Following that, I secured a position as a junior graphic designer at Web Protocol Designs, a startup focused on technology and branding. During my time there, I applied my university education, artistic skills, and creativity to achieve outstanding results, which ultimately led to my promotion to Creative Designer. Later, I transitioned to working remotely for Arc Inkwell Inc., a publishing company based in Maryland, USA, for two years before joining Systematix Inc., an IT consulting firm located in Toronto, Canada.
In the early years of my career, I developed my design skills by creating short comics and gathering feedback to improve my storytelling. As a designer, I have consistently delivered innovative, user-centric ideas, engaged actively in client meetings, and led projects from start to finish with minimal supervision. I've had the privilege of collaborating with a talented team of UI/UX designers, researchers, content creators, and project managers on diverse projects, ranging from emerging brands to SaaS, B2B and B2C digital products. I prioritize understanding my clients' objectives before starting any design work and work closely with UX researchers and product teams to conduct usability studies and implement feedback. With extensive experience in mobile, web, and desktop design, I bring strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit to my work. I look forward to using my experiences as inspiration for innovative designs that make a positive impact.
In my current role as a Senior Interaction Designer and Technical Lead at SCIEX, I leverage the application of Design Thinking processes within multiple smaller agile teams on complex software projects, and this experience has been nothing but exciting. Until now, I have shared great memories with my colleagues while working in a cross-functional team to develop user road-maps, wireframes, design ideas, and more that align users' needs with business goals. I am very proud of my contributions and the lessons learned while working in the Life Sciences and biopharma industry. I am ready to take on new challenges in an advanced role, seeking a full-time permanent position as a Principal Interaction Designer or Senior Staff Interaction Designer; this will allow me to contribute towards the ubiquitous user experience ecosystem using best practices to develop a user-centric product that satisfies the business goals.
I focus on delivering exceptional user experiences in my work. If you believe I'm a right fit for your team, let's connect!
